WillBridge’s name honors William “Willie” W. Chang, father of co-founder Tina Chang, and the bridge-building legacy that shaped his life.

For 60 years at Hardesty & Hanover, Willie designed dozens of the firm’s most complex bridges and became one of the world’s leading bridge engineers.

Willie was an exceptionally gifted engineer. Colleagues remember that he could design and detail a bridge in little more than a week—with a calculator, a few notebook pages, and one 11×17 sheet where every answer could be found. Yet his legacy reached beyond technical accomplishment. At H&H, he was known as a teacher, mentor, and friend. The annual Willie Chang Award, first presented to Willie, honors a career of outstanding contributions to the firm and the engineering profession.
